[Tilesathome] Error when uploading tiles

This error is not coming from the Tiles at Home server: I just checked the
logs for the past week, and there isn't a single 500 error in the bunch.

Do you have a proxy between you and the t at h server? It seems likely that
a proxy is bailing on a 'too large' upload request, and returning a 500
for you. If you try grabbing an empty ocean tile, and rendering that via
xy mode, then uploading, does it work?
