I've also used the perl script to import the vast majority of the 'place' nodes for towns/villages/cities in Western Canada (for the 4 western-most provinces there were around 2000 of them, IIRC, before I started removing any that previously existed). 

A wiki-page may be an idea, especially since there appeared to be a fair bit of other data that may be of interest in the data files that the current script doesn't extract.
