I wouldn't bother with that. latest.txt.gz is also only produced daily, so you would only get rather old information.

Also latest.txt.gz doesn't know when a request has been made and how old the data is from which the tile has been rendered. If something like that is needed, it would make more sense to run the autorequester on the dev server and query the job database directly to see whether a tile has been uploaded recently or not, much less overhead.
