sorry, I should've been more verbose about the comment. Batik is
apparently incapable of writing png files that do not have a .png
suffix, so compress was not only consuming the tilesets but also the
single png files in the working directory.
if compress only looks at tileset directories now then this becomes a
non-issue automatically.
