It might make sense to germans, but I suspect I have about 50% chance
of guessing which is which...

Could anybody come up with some kind of symbol that would at least be
recognizeable as a tree? Perhaps something like what mapnik uses on
forests for one and something more like a stem with leafs on the top
for the other?

Other than that I think it's a good idea.
