I think this might be a timeout issue. The file is pretty large with 
about 11Mb of xml data. The first time I ran the query, I did get the 
error as well after waiting for a very long time. The second time with 
the data already being in the cache of the server, the query was 
quicker, and the client had no problem to validate the utf-8.

I am not sure if this is a client or server timeout, but perhaps t at h 
should handle it more gracefully if the connection dies sometime during 
the transfer? Increasing the relevant timeouts might work too though.
