Then I guess it is best to shift that work back to the client at some
point.  All the server then would do is to add the z6 tile to the
request queue.

But, no need to rush here.

Anyway, people already can initiate an unlimited number of stitches by
requesting a new z12 tile for each z6 tile they want (hmm, I shouldn't
have said that ...).
