I don't want to start cheering before things prove to be stable, but removing the muli-threadedness of the upload processor seems to have fixed the transaction deadlocks we were experienceing (I don't really get why though).

Our single-threaded uploader currently does 5.55k requests (empty land) / hour (mysql is temporarily on a disk of its own), so things look good ATM.
