I can also confirm this behaviour. The only way to use Barik that I 
discovered
was the mentioned row addition. I tried using CLASSPATH, but it seems 
tilesGen.pl
overwrites that, so it's no use.

Stephan, does it still work, if you use that line on Windows? If not, it 
might well
be worth adding, since it fixed the Ubuntu/Batik combination. Don't have 
time to
compare the packages right now...
