I have no idea how Suse treats this, because Suse always do their own
thing with respect to configuration, and I personally switched away from
using it since SuSE-7.3. I have checked back recently, but it's still
very...odd, to put it mildly.
So I can't help you and don't have the resources (time, motivation,...)
to look into it, sorry.
