Yes and no.

I'm currently writing a program that produces CNC-Code for a so called 
"Portalfräse". (With a few modifications it will emboss paper)
And I still get confused with latitude and longitude...
Also the coordinate systems are "the other way round".

If one of you knows a java lib which can easily calculate a map 
projection which is able to set a map scaling factor... would appreciate 
that!
