Surprisingly, that's not so "Black and white". You can't use the gray scale, 
but still there are possibilities to draw more than one level. It's about 
play with the thickness of the line, making lines (polygons) of very dense 
dots of miscellaneous size, and what I know...
The staff in Teiresias, The Support Centre for Students with Special Needs 
[1] on the Masaryk University can do nearly miracles with this technique. I 
wouldn't afraid to claim they produce multidimensional pictures. But it 
needs really experience. It was just an idea, I don't know if this can be 
done automatically.

I was simply scared of the idea developping a new embossing device. In this 
point I totally agree with Lulu-Ann.
