Thank you Ilkka and Gregory for the suggestions.
Gregory, to answer your questions:
- I'm a developer and I have quite a bit of time (though of course, I'd
like to build this as fast as possible). My intention is to develop a site
where people can input an address they are trying to reach and find a route
that is accessible. I initially used the Google Maps API and data from the
San Francisco City Government, but found out pretty quickly that it was
limiting. I was able to build a map highlighting barriers that existed in a
route (i.e. stairs, bridges, highways) but was unable to provide an
alternative. (Later on, I'd love to add additional features like social
networking to enable people to meet up easily at accessible places. Right
now, I'd just really like to get the routing down).
- Ideally, I would love as much detail as possible about the road (like how
steep it is). But as of now, I'd be happy with just knowing that there are
no stairs, bridges or other types of major barriers in the route.
- I would like to display the routes based on user input. I don't need it
for further analysis at the moment.
And thanks for the Routing wiki, that was quite helpful. Any other
suggestions or guidance would be great!
Thank you,
Gurpreet
