Sounds great. Where is your script?
Martin Spott has put a sample of TIGER data in Shapefile format here:
http://mapserver.flightgear.org/OSM/tgr_roads_sfo.tar.bz2
which you should be able to load into PostGIS easily. He's also made the
whole of TIGER as a Shapefile here:
