The Frankieandshadow namefinder is excellent! I found the streets I
personally created in OSM within a split second. Please, please, please
let's adopt this finder for OSM in General and replace the finder on the
homepage! The XML result is also excellent. If we could enhance the xml
a bit so it returns gml and/or kml, it would be an excellent future-safe
place finder that can be integrated in GIS and Google Maps and Earth.
Wouldn't that be a nice extra on OSM?
But I am wondering what frankieandshadow does in the background; they
don't seem to query the main OSM database directly, but build some sort
of index? What is required in order to get this functionallity running
from the main OSM site?
My guess is that finding housenumbers is probably no option (yet)

I disagree on this point. Even points well mapped are not always found
correctly, take the advice, just implement what is currently on
frankieandshadow.com
