I have now dropped the "done" message altogether.

Er, done ;-)

One day I'll take the time to replace the LWP convenience methods for 
downloading OSM data and uploading tiles by something a little more 
low-level, that will enable us to display progress information during 
downloads and uploads as well. But... later.
