Regaring patents, ignorance doesn't help that much in Europe in the
sense that you can safely look at patents and code on. In the USA
things are different however, if it can be proven that you knew about
the infringement the damages triple. That's why you always hear that
developers shouldn't look at patents, but in Europe it isn't really
that a big problem.
