My only comment here is: don't let patents stop you. If you try to
read all the patents your code may be infringing, you will go mad.
Instead, *BE* the prior art. Everything you code and publish adds to
the pool of prior art. There may be a chance you infringe on some
patent, and maybe you'll hear about that later. But on the off-chance
what you've done isn't patented, it's made unpatentable forever.

That's gotta be worth something...
