[OSM-dev] HTTP error 412 when deleting in JOSM

Have just tried deleting a couple of objects in the Lake District. One is a 
segment  (26098175) and another a way (unknown ID) - they are just west of 
Grasmere.

I get the somewhat unusual HTTP error 412 (precodition failed). Is this a 
symptom of server overload, a bug or something else?
