An interchangeable format would be good. I originally intended for it to
be compatible with GNU patch (some of the code still wrongly claims
this). If you can point me at a short example or some docs then I'd
happily consider changing my format or trying to convince you to adopt
mine :-)

I've got a version field in the diff XML header so it should be possible
to make my code backwards compatible, especially if the changes are
relatively minor.
