[OSM-dev] Server retuning 500's

I consistently seem to get error 500 when working with josm in this
area:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?lat=48.418151724222156&lon=8.734621758558486&zoom=12

I remember trying to construct a motorway in the very early days of 0.4
and the nodes for the motorway are already there but apparently no
segments. However I get 500's when downloading the area, so I suspect
there is some inconsistency in the data causing the error. Could
somebody more experienced than I investigate?
