Hi Richard, just a note from me as anozer German uzer. :-)
I appreciate Potlatch and the design mentality you took a lot. If I screw things and delete them, I won't yell at you because hey:
if I buy a Beretta, play with it and shoot myself in the foot, it's my fault as well, isn't it? But Berettas also provide security locks, and so does Potlatch (now), however it is still a little hidden.
I consider myself a power user, but accidently selected a node in a way now and wanted to delete that. I pressed shift-delete (because I know that deletes should be made difficult, I tried shift first). Poom, the whole way gone.
As there is nothing to be deselected when a way is deleted, this went directly into the database. I looked around for a link to a Potlatch help page which could provide me with some explanation of how to undelete stuff (I knew you had implemented that), but didn't find one. In retrospect I see that I should have searched the wiki in a new browser instance for the potlatch help. But in my panic, that thought did not occur to me.
My thoughts on how the Potlatch's safety triggers could be made better to prevent me from shooting into my foot:
1) Provide a link in the bottom or somewhere on that page to potlatch's help page. Right now you can only select "help" in the potlatch starting selection.
2) If I press shift-click which deletes a way, have a text appear in the status area or help area, saying: "You can undelete the way by pressing <ESC> now"
3) Generally popping up the above text more often throughout the session :-).
Thanks for potlatch, i hope you consider this as constructive criticism.
