I've created a java5 compatible osmosis here:

It's completely untested but should work ...
It still has a polygon task but it casts all lat/lon values from double
to float. I don't know how accurate that is, probably more than enough.
The download is smaller than the standard osmosis because I've had to
rip out the PostgreSQL JDBC library and associated tasks which aren't
useful in their current state anyway.
This should get mac users out of trouble in the short term but if
somebody can test out the test JDK below I'd appreciate it.
