Apache can be persuaded not to care, at least when it's serving the  
files itself, not sure if this counts when proxying. I think Apache  
1.3 required "Options Multiviews" whereas Apache 2 now requires  
"AcceptPathInfo On" but I'd set both to be on the safe side.
