I'd suggest you to inmediately switch over to OpenLayers. You'll have finer 
control over the capabilities of the map (and over its javascript code), and 
(most important) you'll be able to *very* easily use geospatial data from 
other sources: either OSM or (more commonly) local GIS platforms, via WMS.

Try to get in touch with Mikel Maron - he's doing some work on the use of OSM 
(along with other technologies) on the field of rapid response to major 
disasters. I'm sure he'll be able to give you some pointers on how that stuff 
is being done right now.
