Considering my tests where a summary is here :

2 tiles in 1 second is not very good, on my setup I achive in real time 
something like 10 tiles per second

But it depends highly on the tile to be rendered
( ~0.03s  for an empty tile, ~0.2s for an high density tile like Paris, ~0.5s 
for zoom level like 9 or 10 )

what is you generation procedure ? are you using generate_tile.py ?
