Thanks for the advice but I got another 2GB so in total I had 4 GB in  
my machine. Although ubuntu recognized only 3.2 GB. I changed to a  
server-kernel as described somewhere but it did not help. Well, for  
now 3.2 GB are fine as well. Maybe I have to update the BIOS.
