Well it certainly used to work... Are you saying that adding the doctype
has changed the behaviour and it no longer renders in the way it used to?
In which case it would have helped if you had explained why that part of
the patch was needed - all I saw was a change which appeared to be
unrelated to any sort of compliance and which was not needed to pass
validation.
