Well, this behaviour seems to have changed from HTML to XHTML. So by
adding the doctype the browsers don't use the compatibilty mode anymore
but the standard compliant mode.

Maybe you're right and I should've explained the changes more precisely,
but I thought that was clear as I didn't write about any changes not
related to making it standard compliant.
