The error with renderd probably just means "something went wrong when
building renderd".
You're doing something slightly different to those switch2osm
instructions because you're using Mapnik 3.0.3. That's not in itself a
problem - I was able to do something fairly similar on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
using the built-in Mapnik 3.0.9 (see
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:SomeoneElse/Ubuntu_1604_tileserver_load
, though you'd want to do something different for the "Setting up a
stylesheet" part depend on what map style you want). I did have
problems building mapnik 3 from scratch on that platform (see
https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/issues/3462 ) but that wasn't an issue
since Mapnik's packaged for that OS.
What would be useful to know would be what OS this is on and whether you
did anything else different to
https://switch2osm.org/serving-tiles/manually-building-a-tile-server-14-04/
that might have affected things?
Best Regards,
Andy
