Peter has a valid point here.
In a turn-by-turn navigation many issues can arise (speaking by experience).
When we're referring on distance from instruction, we actually mean
radius, as distance from a point is a circle geometry.
We're facing the next instruction or not (i.e. we're near but we turned
the bike back).
And of course there is the issue of getting off route (fixed distance)
and when we get back, where we are and what direction we have projected
on the route.
