Dear OpenStreetMaps Team,

I hope you're doing well!

I'm Sahithi Madas, a graduate student in Data Science at the University at
Albany, SUNY, and I'm excited about the opportunity to apply for Google
Summer of Code 2025. After exploring the available project ideas, I’m eager
to contribute to OpenStreetMap and would love to work on one or more of the
following projects:

   1.

*Temporary Road Closures Database and API*
With my experience in SQL and handling complex datasets, I believe I can
contribute effectively to the development of a solid system that will
integrate seamlessly with OSM-based navigation apps. I’m excited about the
idea of building an API for temporary road closures and similar data.
   2.

*Nominatim – Category Search Using ID Presets*
This project caught my attention because of its focus on improving
Nominatim’s category search capabilities. I have strong skills in SQL
(PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and data science, and I’m keen to work on refining
search algorithms and making category-based searches more intuitive and
   effective.
   3.

*Routing – Valhalla – Faster Tile Builds*
I’m really intrigued by the optimization challenges for Valhalla’s
tile-building process. My interest in graph theory and experience with
performance profiling, along with an understanding of multithreading, makes
me eager to contribute to reducing build times and improving the overall
   routing performance.
   4.

   *Modernize the 3D Model Repository*
My background in Python and web development, particularly in integrating
3D data with real-world datasets, aligns perfectly with the goals of this
project. I’m interested in working on the 3D Model Repository to adopt glTF
as the new format for 3D models and update the existing codebase.

I’m passionate about Street Maps, and I see this as a fantastic opportunity
to use my skills in Python, SQL, and backend development while also
contributing to a project that benefits so many users around the world.

Thanks so much for your time and consideration. I’m looking forward to the
chance to contribute to OSM during GSoC 2025!

Warm regards,
