Subject: Re: [Gsoc-orga] A project to fix the Polish government data import pipeline

Hi Sarah,

My project would be mainly concerned with providing manual tools for
importing data.

There already exists a site that helps user to add data using the Polish
data registries:
https://budynki.openstreetmap.org.pl/#map=13/52.51863/19.76231
It's no longer maintained, some features no longer work and more are needed.
The site allows people to download features extracted from the Polish data
registries as .osm files where whey don't already exist.

The Polish OSM community previously had a tool that automatically inported
data from the Polish data registries but the main problem with said tool
was that there were many buildings/adresses that had to be first deleted
before new ones could be placed.
My project would also aim to create a tool which makes it easier for people
to detect incorrect and no longer existing adresses/buildings which could
pave the way for more automated imports.

I've had a long conversation on Discord with one of the previous
maintainers of the current site for the past few days and I'm aware of the
issues that the Polish OSM community faces.
The maintainer I've spoken with outlined that the code behind the existing
site is very messy and the site requires a full rewrite.

I am also aware of the commitment that goes into completing a GSoC project
as I've done one last year.

Kind regards,
Radosław Dąbkowski
