[Gsoc-orga] Proposal for GSoC Project on Logistics Optimisation using OpenStreetMap

[Pornima Gaikwad [IIT KGP]]

Warm Greetings,

My name is *Pornima Gaikwad*, and I am a *final-year* undergraduate student
at *IIT Kharagpur*. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to
OpenStreetMap through GSoC and would like to propose a project that aligns
with both *OSM’s mission* and *logistics industry needs*.

Having worked with major conglomerates like *ITC Limited *and* Adani Group*,
I have closely analyzed logistics inefficiencies, particularly *backward
movements*—unnecessary return trips that increase costs, waste fuel, and
cause delivery delays. I have developed a method to *automatically detect
and optimize routes* using *geospatial data *and* shortest path algorithms*.

I believe this project could greatly benefit *OSM’s dataset* by
mapping *logistics-specific
locations* (warehouses, private roads, distribution hubs, other locations)
onto OpenStreetMap, making it more useful for routing applications. I have
structured the project in a *GSoC-compatible format* (attached below) and
would like the opportunity to discuss this further.

Would it be possible to schedule a discussion with potential mentors to
refine this idea and explore how it can be best integrated into
OpenStreetMap? I look forward to your response and am eager to collaborate
with the organization.
