Dear OpenStreetMap,
I am planning to participate in this year’s Google Summer of Code, and It seems that I need to make a contact before I submit my proposal. I have contact “Lonvia” using the email "lonvia at denofr.de”who is supposed to be the mentor shown on your website, but I haven’t received any response for several days. Please allow me to resend this application. You can find relevant information below:

  *   General Information
     * Name: Yue Linkang, and my English name is “Brave”
     *   OSM account: yuelk2016 at gmail.com<mailto:yuelk2016 at gmail.com>, which unfortunately I haven’t contributed much
     *   GSoC account: yuelk2016 at gmail.com<mailto:yuelk2016 at gmail.com>
     * Occupation: High school student, doing A-levels in China, expected to graduate in 2026
     *   GitHub: https://github.com/BraveYue
     * Involvement: I am kind of a fan of maps and my favourite OSM service is OSMAnd on my phone, which I like to browse and discover new places.
     * Skills: Mainly python, intermediate level, with some familiarity with some common packages. Some knowledge of C and MATLAB. Intermediate level of Blender and 3D-models, beginner in GIS.
     * Other projects: up to now none, neither planning to do so.
     * Schedule: Will be free from June till mid-August, maybe a holiday to the US for some weeks but not yet decided. Expected to work 30 hours per week.
  *   Project proposal
     * I find the project "Nominatim - Transliteration of Search Results” interesting, as a problem I face every day is that hard to search places in China with English. It is also not so well-supported by major commercial map service, especially in smaller cities. As a native Chinese speaker, I believe my knowledge of Pinyin and Jyutping can be helpful to learn other transliteration method including Arabic and Japanese, which I always want to begin my learning of. For working language, I can use English fluently and currently have basic knowledge of German (B1).
     * For the schedule of project of completion, I still need some time to get familiar with your method used in Nominatim, therefore I don’t have the idea of what steps need to be done. If possible, we may discuss the implementation later.

I personally find this project a valuable opportunity to get involved in an open source community, especially for a large project like this. I have tried my best to understand how the GSoC works, and I hope I have done this right. Please kindly give me some advice or further steps I need to take.

Sincerely,
Yue Linkang
