Hello,

I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself.

I'm Michael Moore. I'm working on a masters degree in GIS at UMN. My
background is in web programming and server administration.

I'm very interested in historical mapping, especially in the context
of GIS as a genealogy research tool. I have experience integrating
several non-GIS tools with the web APIs of popular online genealogy
sites (New FamilySearch, Geni, others) and think some really cool and
useful tools could be made by integrating people's pedigrees with
online mapping services.

I'm still too new at GIS to create that sort of thing yet, but that's
what I'm interested in, and what I'm studying to be able to make
(among other things!).
