perhaps end_before and start_after tags to denote known data for
variants. and as i've said in another message, i have come around to
using route relation tagging similar to what Leon Karcher is using
in Germany for situations where the geometry is the same but the
tagging needs to be different. one reason for this approach is
that it's fairly easy to manage the overpass queries for extracting
specific data and then process the tags cleanly.
