[HOT] GPX import failures

Hi All,

I am a GIS specialist living in DRC and taking part in the HOT activation
in the Kivus amongst other things, I joined this list recently and really
appreciate the value of the exchanges that I've seen so far. I would like
to read your thoughts on the topic below.

During the last few weeks, I collected GPS data from various organisations.
I was thinking those ones could help us on OSM in areas were only low-res
or bad resolution imagery is currently available. They could also be used
for rectifying imagery in the area.

However while uploading those tracks on OSM I'm getting GPS import failures
with all files I tried so far. It seems that timestamps hadn't been kept
when the files were saved initially. I thought that those tracks could
still be uploaded as "Public" (unordered points) but even this isn't
working.

My questions are:
1- Why isn't it working when uploading the tracks on OSM as "Public"
instead of "Identified"?
2- Is there any recommended solution to still make those tracks useful for
OSM?
3- Is there a way to prevent Garmin items to "erase" the points timestamps
while saving the tracks on a handheld unit? (as it seems that was the cause
of the current issue)

Thank you,

Claire
