International Services is proud to present our April session of the Brown Bag Lunch & Learn series. This month's topic will focus on refugee resettlement. Please join us to learn about this topic from our guest speakers, April Sugimoto and Lindsay Dean. The series is open to the public, but RSVPs are requested, so feel free to disseminate.

*This series is hosted on the third Wednesday of every month from 1200-1300, you may wish to add this to your calendar as a recurring event.

*Video conference will be attempted at this upcoming Lunch & Learn, so your feedback afterwards on that quality would be appreciated.

“Refugee Resettlement”

OVERVIEW

Refugee resettlement is more than the relocation of refugees to a third state; it involves a process of being received and integrated within a new society. Refugees are often resettled in a country where the society, culture and language are entirely different and new to them. For resettlement to be durable and effective, refugees need to be provided the support and opportunities that are needed to facilitate their integration. It is not the quantity of refugees resettled, but rather how well they are received and supported in the process of becoming full participants in their new communities.

Providing for their effective reception and integration is part of the work of resettlement agencies, such as the African Community Center (ACC). The ACC helps with the resettlement and integration of over 500 “community members” within the Denver metro area annually. Join us as we learn more about the work of ACC and the resettlement process.
