Hi,

In addition to the TMS layer of public domain topographic maps from
"West Africa 1:250,000 - Series G504, U.S. Army Map Service, 1955-" that
Andrew had previously set up at:

http://mapwarper.net/layers/tile/150/{zoom}/{x}/{y}.png

another layer from "West Africa, Joint Operations Graphic 1:250,000 -
U.S. National Imagery and Mapping Agency", with the 5 maps available
from the Perry Castaneda Library Map Collection for Sierra Leone
(generally compiled between 1973 and 1975, and last reprinted between
2003 and 2005), is available at:

http://mapwarper.net/layers/tile/166/{zoom}/{x}/{y}.png

(These are TMS URLs for JOSM)

I've found it particularly useful to find place names, that can be
matched and adjusted with what is visible in satellite imagery.

(As a reminder, for areas where no higher resolution imagery is
available, this Landsat-8 satellite band combination tends to show
settlements in a bright pink hue:
tms[19]:http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/guinee_c10_l8_pxs753/{zoom}/{x}/{y}
)

For imagery providers, a uMap, made by Pierre, shows parts of Kailahun
District 1) where Bing high resolution imagery is not available, and
also 2) where clouds are present on the high resolution imagery that is
available:

Best wishes,

Jean-Guilhem
