There's also the Mapzen's weekly extracts of various metropolitan areas.
Although mapzen is a for-profit company, the extracts are provided free of
charge, updated weekly in PBF, OSM XML, geojson and SHP (derived from
osm2pgsql and imposm), available
at https://mapzen.com/metro-extracts/
