[HOT] newbie needs advice

Hi Spring,

Please take a look at the coordination wiki-page: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/2015_Nepal_earthquake

There you will find links to IRC <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/IRC> , examples of usage, write-ups and interviews in the media, and much more.

Of course this is all new, OSM has only existed for 10 years and HOT 5 years; we are very much in the early days so please help us help you (and I’m sure many, many more).

Thank you,

Russell Deffner

I couldn't find a thing on the IRC, I thought it was something to do with the Intl Red Cross, silly me.

Information sources are hugely fragmented. I don't get a sense of leadership, just random action.

I'm not sure if succesful GIS is a crowd activity.

I've asked but heard nothing about the end use of all this activity. Is it serving the folks on the ground?

Cheers . . . . . Spring

Dear Blake,

It would be great if you could answer this on the list as I have many of the same questions.
