Yeah, I thought about that. With the new ORS QGIS-Plugin one could
easily set it up to work in QGIS, I assume. But I am not sure if an
online API would be a good idea, given fragility of internet
connections. One hour internet outage in a year would excellent
service on behalf of the ISP - but in the wrong hour …

Thanks for the hint about OSRM. I will check it out, certainly.

Great ressource, I should've stumbled upon before turning to the list,
but I appreciate it even more. Also, thank you very much for practical
pointer - always preferable to have a starting point.
I will do some research and maybe prototyping. Maybe I can contribute
back to the HOT community.
