First, apologies if I'm making this thread confusing. I accidentally was
set to digest mode only and am not exactly sure how to respond to the
individual messages from the digest. Alas...

Frederik-
To address your points:

> It appears to me that you're planning to enlist a number of volunteers
for this project who might not even be familiar with OSM - i.e. you're
not looking for existing mappers to drive this import, but for
volunteers from something called "CodeAcross". How will you ensure these
people bring enough understanding of OSM to the table?

Unfortunately Lexington doesn't currently have a large community of OSM
contributors. We would like the CodeAcross event to be an opportunity to
change that. As such the intention is to rely heavily on current
contributors who have committed to the import. The regular contributors who
will be at the event will be tasked with working closely with the new
contributors (answering questions, quality checks, etc.) during that event.
Hopefully for those first-time contributors the experience will be positive
and it won't also be their last time. The "Involvement" section of the wiki
has been updated to clarify this intent. As a further step, in terms of
making sure that people come with knowledge of OSM, maptimeLEX will be
hosting a meetup prior to the even centered on OSM.

> As you probably know, the reason why we want imports spread out on many
shoulders is mostly that we hope that someone who has imported just a
thousand buildings in his home area is more likely to actually care for
that long-term, than someone who plasters a city with a hundred thousand
buildings from afar! In your attempts to enlist newbies for this cause,
please make sure that this long-term aspect is mentioned. Don't make it
look like a time-limited project where people sign up, import a thousand
houses, and then have done their duty and can leave again (because then
you might as well dump the whole load on OSM by a script).

This is a great point and one we will work to hammer home both in our
documentation and throughout the course of the import.

> Also, I'm wondering what the whole APH business in the "historic
overview" chapter on your wiki page has to do with Lexington?...

Good question. This was sort of a copy-paste artifact that was left in to
create context around the event. We were inspired by our neighbors in
Louisville whose import was motivated by making their city more accessible
to the blind and thought it might be worth keeping that info in the wiki.
Alas, that section is probably better as a footnote or bit of trivia for
when we talk to others about why we are doing this import. I've taken it
out altogether.

Thanks for your thoughts on this!
