Hi, Rory:

I've also read, not very thoroughly, the wiki, and the timeout problem 
maybe due to you not having changed the socket.timeout.read JOSM option 
to 90 ?

As for the imagery, it says explicitly that dedicated permission to use 
it for digitizing in OSM is granted.
