Hi Mateusz, great feedback, thank you!

> I guess that "people using RapiD mindlessly" is one [potential issue]

If there are any issues introduced, we will detect this a few days later, because all addresses in OSM are checked for issues by the script, every time it runs.

We are lucky in New Zealand, the data is very high quality.
The database from LINZ is the same one used by the fire service, the postal service, and local city councils.
Any issues identified by the local city council are quickly fixed in the country-wide database.

As a result, the data is almost always correct from what I’ve seen.

Sadly, new users cannot upload images to the OSM wiki (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Wiki:User_confirmation)
So I need to edit more wiki pages before I can upload images ☹

> just to confirm, is it safe to assume that deleted addresses are gone

Yes, the image I tried to upload to the wiki would have explained that. “deleted” addresses are always replaced by new addresses.
See here for an example – Number 14 is replaced by a new road and 5 new houses:

Good spotting, the fork of RapiD is able to add nodes, move nodes, delete nodes, but not edit existing nodes yet.
I will add this feature soon and then update this table.

Looks well!

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/New_Zealand_Street_Addresses_(2021)#Potential_issues
I guess that "people using RapiD midlessly" is one, I guess that it will be used as some review is
needed (probably to cleanup existing and slightly differently formatted addresses?
maybe also as sanity check for the official data?)

What is the plan for dealing with official data that is malformed, incorrect or otherwise wrong?
Or is it possible that it will not happen at all? (In Poland we were not so lucky,
and https://budynki.openstreetmap.org.pl/ needs special support for blacklisting bogus data,
we also report invalid addresses to government ).

Some minor nitpicking:

note image with mismatched name

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/New_Zealand_Street_Addresses_(2021)#Address_Deletion
just to confirm, is it safe to assume that deleted addresses are gone?

goals has
"To add the ref:linz:address_id<https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:ref:linz:address_id>=* tag to 40,000 addresses where the tag
was not added during the initial import, or where it was removed when address
points were manually merged with buildings"

has EXISTS_BUT_NO_LINZ_REF as "tbc"

Mar 14, 2021, 06:00 by K.y.l.e at outlook.co.nz:
Hi all,

In 2009 a project to import data from the New Zealand Government's geospatial agency (LINZ) began (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/LINZ)
In 2017 the project began importing street address data from LINZ (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/LINZ/Address_Import)

However the street address data has never been updated since 2017.
In that time 161,000 new addresses have been created in New Zealand.

I sent an email to the talk-nz mailing list last week, proposing that the New Zealand street address import be continued.
This proposal received entirely positive feedback from the talk-nz mailing list - you can see the discussion here: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-nz/2021/000246.html

As part of this proposal, the existing data in OSM will be compared with the data from the New Zealand Government, so that errors in the data can been corrected.

There is a detailed wiki page for this proposal: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/New_Zealand_Street_Addresses_(2021)

In summary: The intention is to use a custom version of the RapiD editor to import the new addresses, and to fix incorrect data in the addresses.
I've created a proof-of-concept which you can try out here: https://linz-addr.kyle.kiwi - NOTE: it deliberately does not let you upload changesets yet.

As a matter of due diligence, I'm forwarding this proposal to the global community.
If you have time to read the wiki page, I would love to hear feedback on this proposal.

Best regards,
Kyle
