[Imports] Hydrographic data import from LINZ

Hi Mike, apologies I should have been more clear - the data conforms to the S57 schema, and can be downloaded as a csv or shapefile or kml from here: https://data.linz.govt.nz/search/?q=TOPMAR
For simplicity, we download the layers in csv format and then convert the WKT to geojson.

There is also some duplication where the more detailed harbour charts overlap with other chart scales. To resolve this, we only use data from the most detailed scale available for that area.

And as always, there are cases where things like topmarks/lights are on the same structure, so we will merge these nodes together.
This import tool makes this easy, and the iD validator will warn you when there are nodes too close together.

Seems to me the seamark items would be welcome - much of this you can't get unless you are out at sea and actively looking at the object (buoy, beacon, fogsig, lights, etc).
Where is the download to the s57 format data? Or do you mean it's in the s57 schema but stored as shapefile/gpkg?
Also, there may be duplication of data if different usage band cells overlap.

I think the extent of the glaciers from the ADD import don’t quite match the glaciers that LINZ has surveyed.
There seem to be only a few cases like this, right at the edge of the glacier, we can delete these if you like.

Using the same system as the ongoing address update, you can try it yourself from https://osm-nz.github.io/RapiD
It can handle the complex aspects like moving, editing, and deleting data.

Not sure what you mean by this. This area is just as editable as any other part of the world, bearing in mind the lack of good quality aerial imagery.

I think I answered all this in our other conversation, in addition, here is the link to talk-nz which I didn’t include https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-nz/2021/thread.html
All changesets made after 6/10/21 have source=https://wiki.osm.org/LINZ, in addition to attribution=https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Contributors#LINZ which they always had. I hope this addresses that problem.

Indeed, this was discussed during the approval process for natural=crevasse, and is summarised well here: https://wiki.osm.org/Talk:Tag:natural=crevasse

Hi, I’m not sure what you mean by ‘geometrically incompatible features’
I am pretty sure that it is about things like
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/984539279

How crevasses can be in rock outside glacier?
As we discussed in that changeset, I can’t see this ‘damage to the database’ that you’re talking about.
How you plan to update this data? Primary effect is to make this area uneditable.

Also, I want to repeat request for linking specific posting on mailing list that
announced plan to import this features.

Changesets that mass added this features miss links to relevant import
documentation.
