I don't think that's a real good idea to do this automatically. This
will make it pretty hard to *not* link stuff on crowded areas together,
that shouldn't be connected.
You might try the UtilsPlugin, which has an action to combine a node
with an existing way - that might help you here.

This is already the default behaviour of JOSM - if I understand you
