FWIW, when I wrote that plugin the menu looked somewhat different to
what it does now and the current placement is probably wrong. The only
thing I can recall putting in the left-toolbar is the button for the
dialog, but that's where they should be.

I'm not a UI guy. All I wanted to do was make a menu item, if people
felt strongly about where it should go they'd complain. No-one did. So
I'd be for a simple "add menu item" function for those people who
really just want to add something to the menus, without having to
learn the whole Java GUI toolkit. Then people who care about the UI
can fix it later.
