[josm-dev] Deleting of nodes in a way

The new JOSM has a different approach to deleting nodes in ways. Now it
is possible to delete a node that is part of a way.
This is unwanted in the following situation (which I come across quite
often): between two nodes there are more than one segments. One of the
segments is redundant and needs to be deleted, the other segment is part
of a larger way.
In the old manner, you could select a boundingbox around the segment to
be deleted and press "d". Only the segment that was selected got
deleted, the nodes stayed because they are part of a way that is not
deleted.
In the new manner, everything gets deleted, nodes part of not selected
ways included.

I can not imagine this is preferred behaviour? Is there any way to
recreate the old behaviour?

Maarten
